Mike Budden, Martin Bros. District Sales Representative, Named AFDR DSR of the Month

Mike Budden, a District Sales Representative (DSR) working in the Ames, Ankeny and Des Moines, Iowa markets for Martin Bros., was named the Association for Foodservice Distributor Representatives (AFDR) DSR of the Month for October 2019!

The AFDR DSR of the Month is awarded to food service DSRs who are recognized by customers for providing outstanding service, known by co-workers as team players and selected by the AFDR Nominating Committee after a review of nominations as well as interviews. The AFDR is the only national professional association for food service DSRs, marketing associates and territory managers.

Mike has 10 years of experience as a DSR, three-and-a-half of those being at Martin Bros. However, Mike also has three-and-a-half years of experience as a driver.

“I knew that I wanted to be a food service sales representative after being around my parents’ convenience store and seeing how they interacted with their sales rep,” says Mike. “After college, I checked out the company my parents’ sales rep sold for, but only a truck driver job was open. So, I took that job, delivering for three-and-a-half years before moving into sales with them for seven years. I felt like a change was needed and began working for a broker. During my 10 years as a broker, I worked with Martin Bros. some, and then a DSR opportunity opened up at Martin Bros. I’ve been a DSR for them ever since.”

Budden is thankful for his time as a driver because he saw things from a different perspective and listened to customers talk about their sales reps, the good and the bad.

“When I got into sales, I knew what the drivers went through and learned how to make things flow more smoothly with good communication,” says Mike. “In addition, I knew that treating in-house peers in different departments with respect and good communication goes a long way.”

“I may be the one that is recognized for this award, but I would not be in this position without the support from all departments at Martin Bros.”
